BARLA/Northern Rail Youth Cups Empty BARLA/Northern Rail Youth Cups

Post by Sam Armstrong Mon May 04, 2009 3:23 am

Why have the Finals of the above seemingly been shown the same utter apathy many of us in the youth/junior game feel is accorded to our age-groups as a whole when it is, at least allegedly, meant to be one of the Association's two flagship Cup competitions?

Why do the Board constantly fail the games' young players in this way? Why has it, again, been left to the RFL to highlight these Finals?

A quick reply would be appreciated but, sadly, is not anticipated.

Sam,
RFLS, the Word services may be one reason why.

Remember we are in partnership (unification).

I take it that you raised it with the board member present or may be with Niel Wood.

John

Surely it's the job of the BARLA PRO man to ensure, for the sponsors sake if nothing else, that the main Youth & Junior cup competitions of the season are highlighted on the organisations website.

There has been no mention since the first round draws were posted in January of this competition - no draws, results, previews or reviews. Not even the finals. It is not up to RLS to do this on the BARLA website when there is a person in place to ensure that it is done.

Every round of the Open Age cup has been given 'the full works' and so numerous mentions for the sponsor, what do Northern Rail get......bugger all in comparison yet they are sponsoring 3 competitions, not one.

Why should it be raised with Neil Wood? RLS have done their bit, BARLA didn't/wouldn't/couldn't do theirs.

Well what a surprise response John .... good to see you too toeing the party line by trying to deflect responsibility away from BARLA onto RL Services. Maybe next year the competition should be renamed the RFL/Northern Rail National Youth Cup Finals as from your reply everything is done for you by others?

We at NW Counties recently ran a very successful Sponsorbank Lancashire Cup for our youngsters at Widnes' Stobart Stadium and, like BARLA, used with the assistance of Niel Woods & Kelly Barrett, the excellent RL Services. The difference was that we didn't just sit on our backsides and leave the entire day to others .... we got involved!!

We promoted it on, not only our own website, but , just about every other one we could find!! We contributed features to the programme, we did the PA announcements, we greeted the teams, we sent out itineraries, we even had one of our Committee moving plates and cutlery but, best of all we actually left hospitality and spoke to the clubs, players & spectators and all this on top of the fantastic work done on the day by the RFL's volunteers!!!!

Stop trying, as ever, to blame others ..... this was BARLA's event and as such it was BARLA's responsibility to promote it and the Sponsors part within that. I know for a fact that whilst the Sponsors were pleased with the day they were, understandably and in my opinion rightly so, "disgusted" with the lack of promotion of it by their so called partner!!

No mention of the Finals prior, no mention since - indeed, the ony results on the BARLA website are now 12 months out of date!!! For crying out loud, BARLA do not even offer a word of congratulations to the winners and then to have the audacity to try and deflect responsibilty to others is nothing less than pathetic and an insult to all those who took part!!

Mr Pattinson ( BARLA excusist), is the above your last word on this topic since you have a habit of bottling out when you don't like the responses? Before you disappear into ether perhaps you could give Mr Manning a nudge since it is his desk that the can for this PR shambles is currently sitting. That is if you can find him of course.

My replies are fact. I do not bottle anything in life.
I do my debating in meetings.
I will reply to a question that needs a reply too.
If you want debate attend the meeting (open age/youth council).
I read views on this site because it helps focus minds if positive.
I will discuss with Steve any PRO issue. Take time out and consider, is there a reason, and are we working on the issue to help Steve.
RFLS are doing a good job in most of the area's they provide services. Thats no reason not to try and improve services for BARLA.
RFL have the funding to cover a lot of these services and BARLA need to use these services. Remember this funding did come to BARLA, but again that is in the past and we are trying to move forward.

When I declare openly that the topic is closed why do you want me to rabble on.

Its because John when backed into a corner you have nothing to offer apart from topic closed.
Please read my comments on the other thread with reference to the Ass member issue as a prime example.

I'm afraid, John, that you display all the arrogance of position, yet ignorance of reality, which makes moderate people like those with whom you have been debating, into revolutionaries.

They are raising valid points to which your only response is to "declare openly that the topic is closed"!

Mein fuhrer, you are living in the wrong state and the wrong time!

If, as a Board Member of BARLA, your attitude is representative of the organisation, which, sadly, I believe it to be, your days must be numbered.

Wake up and smell the coffee! Talk to the regional leagues. Understand their views and their opinions. It's 2009, the leagues are where the power lies now, because BARLA has not fulfilled its role. They are there. They will not go away. Work with them or perish with the dinosaurs.

I know all of these people. They will all make strenuous efforts to do what they think is best for the game. Don't bury your head in the sand. Talk to them. To Mick, Sam, Jackie, Neil and myself, the success and the future of rugby league is paramount in our thoughts. And so it should be in yours.

The schism which exists between BARLA and the regional leagues (ie, the grassroots of the game) is growing, and it is up to people in positions such as yours to make the difference. The alternative for your organisation is extinction. The regional leagues will survive and prosper, with or without BARLA. The district leagues, so far as I have ever seen, make no contribution whatsoever - at least where I live.

What say you, John? Will you take the challenge and meet these people and hear their views over the table? But remember that meetings don't solve problems, it's the actions outside the meetings that count. Are you up for it?

John, I believe I have, by good luck, found you an ideal new role as the MP Sir Geoffrey Norman's Deputy.

Doesn't look as though John wants to contribute to the longevity of the board on which he sits.

Plan B then?

John
Surely the topic should remain open until such time as an appropriate answer has been given .... and not just until you've become bored with evading the question? Suspect
