SUMMER RUGBY

Post by YAKC on Wed Apr 29, 2009 9:49 am

Now here's an interesting topic just wondered what the general opinion of this idea is, It would seem the NCL are heading along the RFL route with there open age pilot scheme, should we at BARLA allow our clubs the opportunity to voice there thoughts on the matter.
Juniors in Hull already play summer and numbers are growing every year but is the time now right to throw this open to the senior teams and be at the forefront instead of digging ourselves another hole without discussion.

We at NW Counties 13-15's are set to trial it at our Under 13's age-group over the June & July period merely as a fact finding trial to determine where it may or not work and why? Also to see what players, spectators, clubs, coaches etc think of it .. is it better for them, do more parents stay, are numbers increasing, are club takings higher, is it more or less enjoyable etc.

Time will tell.

I really have no idea of the open-age setup as my focus is solely youth/junior orientated so rather than comment and risk being wrong I think I'd better keep schtum ... safer all round to let those with experience comment. We were asked to check out it's feasibility by our members and are doing so ... there are mixed opinions obviously but until we trial it we'll never know whether it is the right move or not.

Why not have it placed on the open-age council agenda by your local league representative.
The last time it was discussed was a couple of years back and it was rejected then.
If you have a problem e-mail.

Thought about what you said John, then realised my local league would be Hull and District well dinasours and ostriches spring to mind when you talk about that committee.

Any full member or associate member league can put it on the open-age council agenda.
