Castleford and Featherstone ARL Workshop cup to expand
The Castleford & Featherstone ARLs Edgar Hanson `Workshops Cup,
which has involved six teams in each of the last two years, is set to
expand significantly this time.
Over a dozen sides have already expressed interest in taking part in
June in a competition geared towards new or lapsed players.
Teams certain to enter include Fryston reforming, with youth and former
players, for the 2009/10 campaign and currently seeking a coach Hunslet
Prospectors, a Selby Town team and Methley, together with Chequerfield,
who plan to relaunch with new faces.
Applicants for the role of coach at Fryston should contact Alan Hardy on 077 5835 0246.
Clubs such as Castleford Lock Lane, Castleford Panthers, Crigglestone
All Blacks, Eastmoor Dragons, Featherstone Lions, Kippax and Normanton
Knights, meanwhile, are trawling through old registration lists with a
view to offering former players a game or two in a fairly friendly
environment - and the Airedale pub in Castleford is keen to be included.
There are also possible entries from a team in the Heavy Woollen area, Asda’s Glasshoughton branch, and Whitwood College.
Games will be played 30 minutes each way, on a 13-a-side basis (11-a-side if necessary).
A meeting of interested teams will be held at Glasshoughton WMC on
Tuesday 7 April (8.30pm) when organisers hope to ratify the format for
2009.
Applications for inclusion should be made to Castleford & Featherstone ARL Chairman Phil Hodgson on 01977 515792.
