A big thank you to Spen & Carole for making the effort to get down to our Finals even though they'd already been to two other events before turning up at ours and would, I'm sure, probably have liked to have gone home for a rest.

We hope they and everyone who attended our Finals on a glorious day enjoyed the feast of of rugby offered and went home, irrespective of results, having had a great day.

We'd also like to thank Andy Gregory who stepped in as "guest of honour" at short notice and Spen, who stepped in at even shorter notice, to present the trophies & medals. Thank you both.

Finally a big thank you to the players and coaches and the hundreds of spectators who showed up to cheer their teams on and create a fantastic atmosphere.

The planning for next years Finals starts today!!!

Congratulations to the three winning sides yesterday, Bold Miners, Rylands Sharks & Halton Farnworth Hornets. What a fantastic feast of rugby we saw from all six teams and it was a shame that there had to be runners up and our commiserations to them .. we're sure they'll all be back bigger & stronger next year.

A huge Thank You to all of the following ...

Andy Gregory for being our Guest of Honour and presenting the medals and trophies for the U13's & U14's and to Spen Allinson, BARLA Chair, for stepping in to present the U15's awards.

Steve Jones of KT8 Photography not only for his great pics of the day but also for very kindly sponsoring the Man of the Match Awards. Have a look on his website to see the galleries and hopefully buy a pic or two for treasured memories.

To everyone at Golborne Parkside for working so hard on the day including Steve, Les & Billy for sorting out the pitch, changing rooms and helping put all the equipment out and back in again, the ladies in the Kitchen for supplying nearly 150 hungry Players and Coaches as well as the VIP's and several hundred others with something to eat and finally, from the club, to the staff behind the bar who looked like they had steam coming off their hands as they tried to keep everyone refreshed!!

To the volunteers of the British Red Cross who were there when we, sadly, needed them to deal with injuries on the pitch and again provided a fantastic and very professional First Aid service at very very short notice for our players.

To the RFL's Clare Robinson & John McMullen and their fantastic group of volunteers without whose assistance the day wouldn't have gone like clockwork, namely: Cat Hall, Helen Hayes, Natalie Dowbekin, Gemma Whittam, Paul Marshall, Lee Massey, Ryan Beckett, David, Steve & Helen Abel. The highlight for many of these was getting their picture taken with former Wigan & GB legend Jason Robinson.

We hope we have missed no-one out, if we have we apologise, but finally a big thank you to everyone who turned up to support the day and create such a good atmosphere ... we hope you all enjoyed your day with us!!

Alison Gregory

Post by Sam Armstrong on Fri May 01, 2009 10:43 am

It has just come to our attention that our Guest of Honour at last Sunday's NW Counties Cup Finals, Andy Gregory, suffered a personal tragedy on the same day as he was with us as his wife, Alison, sadly collapsed with a brain haemorrhage from which she sadly didn't recover and subsequently died last night at the very young age of 39.

On behalf of everyone at NW Counties 13-15's we would like to express our heartfelt and sincerest condolences to Andy on his tragic loss and would like him and Alison's children, Kirsty & Brad, to know that our thoughts are very much with him at this very very sad time.
