The Millom Game. Empty The Millom Game.

The Knights gained revenge for their cup exit at the hands of millom with a resounding victory. Normanton came in to the game smarting from last weeks defeat and were determined to show the home faithful just what they can do when it comes to the crunch.

Ironically, it was Millom who started well kicking the ball in to touch straight from the kick off thus getting the first bout of posession. The Knights were in no mood for surrender though and kept their line intact after a series of penalties were awarded against them.

In the end the Woolybacks had to settle for an Evans penalty to take them in to a two point lead. The Knights response was almost immediate as Bateman just failed to hold on to an excellent cross field kick from Hill. Normanton did open their account minutes later when the strong running Patrick Waterton charged through the visitor's defensive line taking three players over the line with him to score a barnstorming try. Hill converted to take the Knights in to a 6-2 lead.
The Normanton pack dominated this clash giving half backs Hill and Greaves the chance to show their skills. Next over the line was the impressive Paul Statham playing out of position at hooker, with a cheeky close range try, dummying his way over from acting half as though he'd been playing at 9 all his life. Again Hill added the conversion to take the Knights in to a 12 - 2 ascendancy.
The fierce Normanton defence withstood everything the woolybacks could throw at them with Paul Seal playing a real captains knock putting in some bone shuddering tackles, Seal was abley supported by the rest of his pack with second row partner Dave Dunwell - on his home debut since signing from Upton - equally as effective with a series of big hits. Millom eventually conceding they wouldnt breach the Normanton line and taking two points from the boot of Evans.
Man of the match Dunwell marked a dream home debut with a try just before half time after running strongly on to a well timed pass from Statham in a carbon copy of Watertons try. After earlier adding a penalty Hill again converted from the side of the posts to take Normantomn in to a 20-6 half time lead.

The second half was a tough uncompromising affair with Millom scoring an interception try, while for the Knights Hill completed a perfect day with the boot converting two more penalties to take the final score out to 24 - 8 in favour of the Knights.

With 5 more home games of the season left Normanton are in a confident mood and the camp believe survival in division one is an achievable target and both the players and coaching staff know their fate is in their own hands.

Next week the Knights get the chance to leapfrog fellow strugglers Shaw Cross Sharks in a game that really is the old proverbial 'four pointer'. Get down to the game and support the boys in their bid for survival.
